Surfers against sewage have done a huge amount of great work in keeping our beaches and seas clean. We recently covered the SAS music fundraiser event that happened in bristol, check that out here. This spring they have organised their annual Big Spring Beach Clean which is the biggest single community beach clean effort in the UK. Thousands of volunteers group together to collect up huge amounts of plastic and other marine debris from over 200 sites across the UK.
SAS have teamed up with Parley whose aim is to recycle and reuse as much of the plastic collected at the spring beach cleans, more info on Parley here.
SAS are currently looking for willing volunteers to help out with these events, so keep an eye out for a local event near you. If there aren’t any events nearby, you can register your local beach and get a group together!
It’s not just beaches being cleaned in the spring clean, there’s even a Bristol Avon Gorge clean which is due to take place on 16th April 2016. For more info on this event check out the facebook page here. For any Bristol locals that haven’t wandered down the gorge recently, there is a lot of work to be done down there so any spare hands would be appreciated. Here’s a recent photo (Thanks to Estelle for this one) of a fraction of the litter along the riverbanks…
For more info on all the beach cleans check out the SAS website here.
